POLICY
* RATE INCREASES IN POLAND QUESTIONED BY POLISH INTERNET ORGANIZATION
As of 1 January 1996 Poland's Naukowa i Akademicka Siec Komputerowa (NASK)
has announced plans to incorporate new rates for its services on the
Internet. The new rates reflect payment for information sent to and from a
NASK subscriber. Polska Spolecznosc Internetu -- a Polish Internet
association not associated with PSI, an Internet Service Provider based in
the U.S. -- believes that the traffic rates proposed by NASK will have an
unfavorable effect on the development of the Internet in Poland. The
association, headed by Maciej Uhlig, claims the new pricing structure puts
e-mail recipients at a disadvantage because recipients are unable to
control unwanted mail. Polska Spolecznosc Internetu was founded in July
1995 for the purpose of monitoring the development of the Internet in
Poland and to prepare the general population for the global information
society. Today the organization has more than 270 members worldwide. For
