Let me try to do the spin: (As a prediction....... the great Sternack)

NOTE: I"M BEING SARCASTIC AND HELPING ZD. In the future we can just call
out the DEATH EQUIVALENCY NUMBER as shown below:

;IBM announces preload agreements in Eastern Europe

1. Uh oh. Dumping surplus. That must mean that OS/2 is going to die.

;AUSTIN, Texas, December 11, 1995...IBM Central Europe and
        ;Russia (CER)

2. Must be communist. (Oops. ZD can't use that. Ain't policially correct
anymore.) Therefore OS/2 must be dead.

;IBM and R-Style will participate in joint marketing
;activities, and IBM will provide R-Style specialists with
;technical training. The company shipped 24,000 PCs in 1994 and
;expects more than 40,000 shipments in 1995. R-Style estimates
;that the addition of OS/2 Warp will boost 1996 sales figures by
        ;7-10 percent.

3. Damn, CompUSA will sell that many computers to REDNECKS next week.
Therefore OS/2 must be dead.

;Stins Coman will begin preloading Russian-language OS/2 Warp
;influenced Stins Coman's decision to preload OS/2 Warp, said the
;company's president, Sergey Anisimov. "This announcement
;continues to build on the momentum OS/2 Warp is gaining in the
;Russian market," said Peter Perregaard, IBM software sales
;director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). "IBM and
;OS/2 Warp have the superior technology and the superior strategy
;that is so important to the customer today."

4. Uh-oh. Middle east and Africa? Must mean OS/2 is gonna die cuz they
don't use computers over there.

;Stins Coman is also launching an advertising campaign
;highlighting the availability of Stins Coman computers preloaded
;with OS/2 Warp. The Stins Coman Corporation anticipates PC sales
;of $26 million in 1995 and has a target of $45-50 million in
        ;1996.

5. Hey, haven't you heard? MS spent $500 on pizza's and coke on August
24. Must mean OS/2 is gonna die.

;Formoza, the second largest Russian OEM, plans to preload
;14,400 machines with Russian-language PC DOS in the next 12
;months and 12,000 machines with OS/2 Warp, including 2,400
;machines with the OS/2 Warp Connect English-language version.
;The company shipped approximately 20,000 PCs in 1994 and expects
;shipments of 50,000 by the end of this year.

6. Damn man. The branch of the government I work for has 60,000 machines
in the field. (486SX25 with 5 Meg of ram. Won't run Win95 but will run
WARP really good. They have SCSI hard drives since they had planned on
upgrading them all to UNIX someday.) However back to the subject at
hand. Must mean OS/2 is gonna die.

        ;Vobis Microcomputer
;Half of all Vobis 486 and Pentium class computers will be
;preinstalled with the Polish version of OS/2 Warp. "Vobis
;consistently aims to offer state-of-the-art systems that are
;tailored to the needs of our customers" said Danusz
;Pietraszkiewicz, Vobis Microcomputer country manager. "Beyond
;doubt, many of our customers find OS/2 to be their preferred
;operating system, so the number of OS/2 users is rapidly
        ;growing."

7. Polish? (No more comments.) Must mean OS/2 is gonna die.

;The company shipped 8,000 PCs in 1994 and expects to ship
;double that in 1995. Vobis is also the largest computer retailer
;in Poland, with 18 retail outlets.

8. 8,000? No comment. OS/2 must be slated for the dust bin.

;OS/2 Warp has earned 23 awards since its release last year,
;including InfoWorld Readers' Choice Product of the Year, PC
;Magazine #1 for User Satisfaction, PC World Product of the Year,
;Byte Readers' Choice Software Product of the Year and the Best
;Operating System of the Year at the UK Computing Awards for
;Excellence. OS/2 has won 70 industry awards since December,
        ;1992.

9. Old news. OS/2 is ancient. It must die.

;There are more than ten million OS/2 users worldwide. Over
;four million copies of OS/2 Warp have been sold since November
;1994. In 1995, more than 125 software developers have announced
;plans to offer new native OS/2 applications, adding to the 2,500
;OS/2 applications already on the market.

10. Noone really knows for sure how many windows users are around. Must
be lots. More than lots. Must be more than Bill can count. Must mean
OS/2 is gonna die.

Now windows users can use the DEATH EQUIVALENCY numbers when they debate
with OS/2 users!

ZD can also use the numbers to make their articles shorter and so they
can have more articles!!!!

Oh, well. #11.

oopes.... Didn't put that one in?

11. Who cares about 1 through 10? I'll use OS/2 till they pull it out of
my stiff dead hands. I'll do this because IT WORKS. Unlike other
products that I've used from other companies that are have CEO's named
BILL and products named BOB.

G"day.

Keith Morris
Programmer for Uncle Sam.
(Although my opinions are my own. Noone else in the government has
enough brains to have an opinion.)
