IBM will release a first preview of the next browser generation for OS/2 by end of
2000. This browser will be based on the
Netscape 6 engine and will include lots of new standards and functions. The new
browser engines most improvements are
the high display quality and the amazing rendering speed.
During 1st quarter 2001 IBM will release the final version for OS/2. We also heard
some rumours IBM wants to name the
new browser "WebExplorer Millenium Edition" (do you remember the first OS/2
Webbrowser !?).
In the meantime Henry Sobotka release a new binary of the Mozilla browser for
OS/2. This is release is kinda Milestone 17
preview, because lots of changes since the M16 are already included, and
Milestone 17 will be closed at 20th June. Mr.
Sobotka says this build is "fast and fun to use" compared to M15. The OS/2 port
also got a new owner: Michael Kaply from
IBM Austin.
