Mercury/32 is a fully-functional SMTP mail transport system for Windows
95 and Windows NT, and includes a POP3 server and POP3 Distributing
Client. This server was referred to as a "mystery product" in a message
to the PMAIL list several weeks ago. This release is directed primarily
at sites running Pegasus Mail in standalone mode; either with the
non-NetWare network setup, or for single-user installations currently
using an SMTP gateway such as WinDis for incoming mail. The functionality
of this version corresponds to version 1.30 of the Mercury NLMs for
NetWare servers, with some additions:
* Mercury/32 incorporates a distributing POP3 client, which allows the
centralised download and distribution of mail in two ways: the client
can download the entire contents of a POP3 mailbox to any local
user's account, or it can download mail from a shared "Domain
account", distributing incoming mail to local addresses according to
the address fields of the message. You are not limited to using one
method or the other - they can be used in combination.
* Mercury/32 can be used in standalone mode (not attached to a NetWare
server), allowing it to support standalone installations of Pegasus
Mail on networks other than NetWare, such as Windows peer-to-peer
networks.
* There is an offline mode that prevents Mercury/32 from attempting to
connect to any other servers or sites.
* This pre-release version of Mercury/32 incorporates NetWare support
after a fashion, and currently will support one Bindery-mode server.
It is intended that future releases will allow Mercury/32 to service
multiple servers. NetWare mode requires that Novell's Client32 is
used on the workstation that Mercury/32 runs on.
Questions, comments, and bug reports regarding Mercury/32 should be sent
to tech-support_at_pmail.gen.nz
Enjoy!
Cheers
Richard
