A number of subscribers have noted problems with these new
drivers. I was one of them! However, after spending the after-
noon working on installing them, I believe I found the problem
which causes both the trap upon reboot and the WIN-OS2 hang.

It appears that the install routine fails to copy the following
file to the \OS2\MDOS directory, leaving the previous version
of the file there:

        vvga.sys

The new one is 108,567 bytes in size and is dated 06/29/98.
This file should be in both the \MGA\OS2 and the \OS2\MDOS
directories. Install puts it in the first, but not the second.
After I copied it to the \OS2\MDOS directory and added the
following line to "autoexec.bat" everything appears to work
fine:

        SET MGA=[x]\MGA\OS2

The "fixauto.cmd" utility in the \MGA\OS2 directory is supposed
to write this to "autoexec.bat".

Here is what I recommend.

1. Revert to VGA mode and reboot.
2. Install the new Matrox drivers according to instructions in
the included "readme.os2" file. DO NOT REBOOT AT THIS
        TIME!!!
3. Manually copy the "vvga.sys" from the \MGA\OS2 to the \OS2\
        MDOS directory.
4. Modify "autoexec.bat" either manually or by running
"fixauto.cmd" from the \MGA\OS2 directory to add the
SET MGA=[x]\MGA\OS2 line. [x] is the boot drive.
5. Now reboot.

I strongly urge that "checkini" or "unimaint" be run to clean
up the ".ini" files.
