Postdoctoral research position – Fining of Wines

A two year Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is available at the
University of Auckland, Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering.

The project concerns the removal of protein from white wine. This
process, called fining, is currently conducted using bentonite, a
montmorillonite (MMT) clay. The removal of proteins by bentonite relies
on a cation exchange within the hydrated layers of the MMT. The
research will revolve around alternative methods of protein removal and
will be conducted in conjunction with a large local winery.

The Research Fellow will require expertise in any of the following areas:
Surface chemistry, science and engineering
Protein chemistry
Mineral chemistry
Membrane manufacture and separation techniques
Materials science and engineering
