RESEARCH FELLOW (temporary two year post)
DEVELOPMENT OF THE NEUTRON TRANSMISSION METHOD FOR ENGINEERING &
MATERIALS RESEARCH

A two year fellowship in the Fracture Research Group, funded by the
EPSRC, is available for a post-doctoral candidate with a background in
Physics, Metallurgy, Materials Science, or a related subject.

You will join a research team led by Dr Lyndon Edwards and Dr Michael
Fitzpatrick concerned with neutron strain scanning of Advanced
Materials and Structures. The project is to develop a neutron
transmission instrument with an accuracy better than 100x10-6.

The instrument is to be developed at ISIS, the world's brightest
pulsed neutron source which is based at the Rutherford Appleton
Laboratory near Oxford and the work is being undertaken in
collaboration with Professor Phil Withers and co-workers at the
University of Manchester. Familiarity with diffraction-based
crystallography and/or Reitveld methods would be desirable.
The appointment of Research Fellow will be made on the C1A scale,
within the range #15,735 to #23,651 per annum depending on
qualifications and experience. Appointment as a Research Fellow
requires a PhD or three years equivalent in quality of achievement.
