Anders Christensen, author of Regina (a free implementation of Rexx), will
speak at the Rexx Symposium in Heidelberg next week. His topic is
"Automatic translation between Rexx and Perl" and the abstract follows:

"The talk is based on experiences with a prototype for translation between
Rexx and Perl, using replacement of terms and other language constructs.
However, due to non-overlapping features and differences in semantics, this
approach turned out to be virtually impossible.

The talk will first point out some of the major problems and present Rexx
and Perl constructs that are difficult to automatically translate into the
other language. Then some possible methods of achieving such automatic
translation (and their drawbacks) are presented."

Plan to join us. Walk-in registrations are welcome (April 22-24,1997).
